Pushkar

This small city in Rajasthan is one that will allure you with its curious scramble of religious sites and tourist areas. Famous for the Pushkar Camel Fair, the city is referred to as the King of pilgrimage sites. There's a pond here that was apparently formed by the tears of Lord Shiva! Beware...time flies here and you'll be more charmed by it than Deepika was by SRK in Happy New Year. We've warned you!

Lothal

Home to the world's earliest known dock, Lothal is an archaeology enthusiast's dream. Located in the state of Gujarat, the site museum displays artifacts from a time long gone and even an artist's impression of what the city looked at its peak. Photoshop has better uses than just enhancing profile pictures apparently!

Madurai

Also known as the 'Athens of the East', Madurai is a sprawling metropolis that to this very day retains its old world heart and soul. One of the oldest cities in India, it is visited by tourists from all over the country and the world because of the stunning Meenakshi Amman Temple. Hop on the Madurai Express instead of  the Chennai Express!

Varanasi

One of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, Varanasi is a swirling mix of colours, sights, sounds and people, so much so that you will be blinded by the sheer intensity of the culture. Identified by its Ghats, Varanasi has a magical quality about it. You can check out any time you like, but you'll probably never want to leave!

Ujjain

A name in the list of seven sacred cities, Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh has been attracting tourists for its wonderful temples, the mystical river ghats, and its labyrinthine alleyways. Ujjain is one of the four sites that hosts the Kumbh Mela!

Fatehpur Sikri

Once the capital of the Mughal Empire, this World Heritage Site is a little away from Agra. Home to one of the best preserved collections of Mughal architecture, the red-sandstone exterior of the palace shines like a ruby in the sunset. Sheldon sure couldn't go back in time, but that's because he wasn't here. You can!

Hampi

One of the most surreal places to visit in the world, this World Heritage Site will leave you in romantic ruins (pun intended).With humongous boulders decorating the scenery, Hampi is meant to be enjoyed like whisky rather than tequila...slowly, smoothly, pensively.

Ayodhya

A little away from the bustling Faizabad, Ayodhya is relatively quiet and laid back. The birthplace of Rama, stepping into Ayodhya feels like entering the world of black and white films.
