Pushkar, Rajasthan
A view of the serene Aravalli Hills, a pool to chill in, and tantalizing Rajasthani food all commingle to make Zostel Homes Pushkar the flavourful delight it is. With tents for private rooms, utterly rural milieus made up of fields and faraway hills, and a rustic vibe, the luxury retreat lies at the outskirts of Pushkar city, away from the bustle and still conveniently accessible. A pilgrimage for some, a hippie land for others, Pushkar is an odd and interesting amalgamation of all things travellers and residents want it to be. Known for its peaceful ghats, hike-able hills, and niche market, Pushkar city hails with a breezy vibe. While it gets filled up to the brim during the Pushkar Camel Fair and one week of Holi, the town certainly has a charm that’ll make you stay for longer than you’d expect to whenever you pay it a visit.

HIGHLIGHTS AND ACTIVITIES
Pushkar Mela: One of India’s oldest fairs, the Pushkar Camel Fair originated for a trade of livestock like camels, horses, sheep, and more, with camels being the most traded animals. A hundred years later, now the fair is as much of a cultural affair as it is about trade. Villagers from all over Rajasthan gather here for interesting celebrations like camel and horse races, moustache and bridal competitions and more. You’ll also find lots of performances of folk music and dance. Sports like bodybuilding, kushti, and kabaddi are also held in the fairground. Interestingly, hot air balloon and Ferris wheel rides are a thing in the fair, giving you beautiful views of the desert, the lake, and the town of Pushkar at sunset. Adding to the merriment are the umpteen handicrafts stores put up by artisans from across the country. Travellers can also shop for traditional Indian stuff like jewellery, clothes, animal accessories, home décor, stationery, and more at the fair from local artisans from different parts of the country.
Hikes Rather offbeat, hiking is one of the most unique things to do in Pushkar. The town has 4 popular hiking trails: the Alu Baba trek, Naga Pahar trek, Gayatri hill for sunrise, and the Savitri Temple for sunset. The first two hikes are more nature-centric, whereas the latter two give a beautiful view of Pushkar from the top. All hikes are easy to moderate and take up less than half a day to finish.
Pushkar Market Treating travellers with umpteen things from across the world, the main market of Pushkar is a harlequin affair. From macramé wall hangings and bracelets to dream catchers, pajamas, linen bags, and bandanas, the market overwhelms you with its eclectic treasures, making shopping in Pushkar one of the best things to do here.
Temples of Pushkar Known as one of the 5 holy cities of India, Pushkar houses more than 300 temples in its teeny tiny landscape. Obviously, some of these temples are a sight to behold. If you’re looking for places to visit in Pushkar, make a stop at the Brahma, Varaha, Rangji, Jain, Savitri, and Shiva Temples in Pushkar city.
Places to Eat Although non-vegetarian food and alcohol are not allowed in Pushkar due to religious reasons, Pushkar is a promising food destination. From piping hot jalebis and malpuas that melt in your mouth to stalls with 30 flavours of juicy falafels and even Italian and continental cuisines, the main market of Pushkar is a total delight of a food affair. You’ll also get to try a lot of delicious Indian preparations like paranthas, chaats, kachodis, and churan here. The cafes of Pushkar are a different story altogether. Italian, Lebanese, and vegan cuisines rule the menus here and pair the food up with a chill vibe, and you have it—a perfectly spent lazy afternoon in the town of ghats.
